Posting cadence: how often to post and how to actually keep it up

The question is never really "how often should I post." It is "what pace can I hold for six months without the quality collapsing." This guide covers the cadence that compounds, the content mix that fills DMs, and the batching system that makes a heavy schedule feel light.

01The honest math on frequency

Consistency beats volume, and it is not close. An account posting four solid reels a week for six months will beat an account that posts twelve one week, burns out, and vanishes for three. The algorithm reads regular engagement patterns; your audience builds a habit around your presence; both punish gaps.

Working targets for someone serious about filling their DMs:

  • Reels: 4 to 7 per week. Reels are how strangers find you. Below four a week, you are leaving discovery on the table. Past one a day, most people trade quality for quantity and lose the trade.
  • Stories: daily, or close to it. Stories are for the people who already follow you. This is where warm leads marinate. See the story strategy guide.
  • Carousels or feed posts: 1 to 2 per week. Slower reach, deeper authority. A strong carousel keeps getting saved for months.

If you can only do one thing: pick a number you can hit every single week on your worst week, then hit it. Three reels every week beats five reels most weeks.

Coming from posting rarely, or twice a month? Do not jump straight to daily. Ramp: three reels a week for two weeks, then four, then five if quality is holding. New accounts in the learning phase can push toward the top of the range, since more posts means faster feedback about what your audience responds to; see Growing from zero. Established accounts protect quality first.
